Y.A.L.E. School Students Take Part In "Shop With A Cop"

Students with Disabilities Donate Money to Help Families in Need

Egg Harbor, NJ – Students at Y.A.L.E. School’s Northfield Campus recently donated to Egg Harbor Township Police Athletic League’s “Shop With A Cop” day. The nation-wide program allows children to be joined by uniformed police officers and volunteers to do holiday shopping for their families using funds donated by community partners. The program is designed to help foster positive relationships between at-risk students and police officers.

As part of their school-based behavior program, students at Y.A.L.E. School earn “Y.A.L.E. Bucks” as part of a reward system for following school rules and meeting individual behavior goals. Typically students exchange the “Bucks” for items at the school store but instead opted to donate their “bucks” to the “Shop With A Cop” program. Students contributed a total of 428 “Y.A.L.E. Bucks,” which were cashed in for real dollars by staff and families after which Y.A.L.E. School wrote a check to the Egg Harbor PAL for the holiday event.

Staff and students nominated two students, 10 year-old Jadah Butler, of Atlantic City and 11 year-old Anthony Platt, of Egg Harbor Township to go shopping with a police officer. The event will be take place on December 12, 2015 at Walmart of Mays Landing.
