$190K Project To Improve Bernards Township Library Entrances
Just over $95,000 will be covered through a grant from the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Library is in the process of improving its front and rear entrances with the help of a grant.
The library submitted a grant with the State Librarian in accordance with the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act in early 2021. In November 2021, the library was notified they were one of the recipients, Library Director Lyn Begraft told Patch.
The grant would cover $95,042.50 or half of the total project of $190,085. The other half will be covered by the library.

The project entails updating the front and rear entrances to meet ADA accessibility needs.
In the back, a canopy would be added to help patrons during inclement weather such as rain, wind, or snow. A leaky book drop would be repaired and new concrete would be added.

"Repairs to make for a much nicer entrance," said Begraft.
In the front, the book drop would be moved, new doors and lighting would be added and it would be updated to be more accessible to handicapped residents.
"We are excited, really pleased to be awarded this grant," said Begraft. "We are very fortunate to be in a situation where we can match and be a part of this grant. We are looking forward to it for the library and for the patrons."
While still in the initial stages of the project, Begraft said the township needed to pass a resolution in approval of the project first. This resolution was unanimously passed by the Township Committee at the March 39 meeting.
Once all of the paperwork is approved, Begraft said the library will have a better idea of when construction can begin.
