2 Democratic Candidates Endorsed For Bernards Township Committee
Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy and Joan Bannan were endorsed by the Bernards Township Democratic Committee (BTDC).

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Incumbent Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy and former Committeewoman Joan Bannan were both endorsed by the Bernards Township Democratic Committee for the upcoming November election.
Both candidates are seeking three-year terms on the Bernards Township Committee.
The committee described the pair as results-driven and fiscally responsible individuals who have demonstrated leadership skills within the local community.

Jane Conkin, chair of the Bernards Township Democratic Committee, spoke to the qualifications of the candidates.
"Ana and Joan, each in their own right, have done so much for Bernards," said Conkin. "They are terrific analysts and problem solvers who look forward to continuing to address issues ranging from overdevelopment and resident safety to
infrastructure and taxes. Time and again, Ana and Joan have demonstrated their concern for maintaining a great quality of life among neighbors across the political spectrum. Their
competence and connectedness to Bernards, and ability to work well with others, is what we need in this climate."

Duarte McCarthy has lived in the township for 30 years and is currently serving a three-year term that began following the 2023 election.
Duarte McCarthy is the first Democratic mayor in the history of the township.
"The Township Committee is working together collaboratively, and in good faith, to provide all our residents with the best possible outcomes. Regardless of the national divisiveness, here we are locals. I would be honored to continue serving our community for another term of office," said McCarthy.
During her tenure, she has served as a liaison to several committees, including the Agricultural Advisory, Emergency Management, and Golf Advisory Committees. She also holds a seat on the Police Subcommittee and works with utility companies.
Prior to her time in local government, Duarte McCarthy worked as a senior executive with Citi for several decades.
Bannan, a practicing attorney and resident of the township for more than 25 years, previously served on the Township Committee from 2019 to 2022.
During her initial term, she participated in a variety of boards and commissions, including the Planning Board and the Sewerage Authority.
Bannan also served as a Certified Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor, training teachers and residents in the area.
Reflecting on the upcoming campaign, Bannan stated she is excited to run with Ana, "who cares deeply about our town, and for the opportunity to serve all residents of our community once again."
Bannan is currently counsel at the firm of Porzio Bromberg & Newman in Parsippany.
