2K Residents Remain Without Power, Flood Watch Remains In Somerset County

Some parts of the county got hammered by more than 3.5 inches of rain on Monday with more heavy rain expected on Tuesday.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — More than 2,000 residents remain without power on Tuesday morning after severe thunderstorms hammered Somerset County.

The majority of the outages are in Basking Ridge and Bernardsville with close to 1,000 customers in each town impacted. Outages are also reported in Bedminster, Branchburg, Far Hills, and Warren, according to JCP&L as of 7 a.m. on June 27.

The area was hit hard with a tornado warning being issued on Monday around 3:15 p.m. after the National Weather Service's radar detected rotation in the Flemington area.

Several roads remain closed in Basking Ridge due to last night's storm Including N Maple Avenue in the vicinity of Southard Park and King George Road between Spring Valley and Dewey Meadow, said Bernards Township Office of Emergency Management in an alert on Tuesday morning.

A flood watch also remains in effect for Somerset County through midnight on Wednesday. Most of the rivers in the area are still at normal levels except for the North Branch Raritan River near Rartian which is slightly above the Action stage at 8.19 feet.

Rain

Somerset County got hammered with a good amount of rain on Monday with Pottersville (an unincorporated community split between Bedminster and Tewksbury) getting 3.51 inches.

The rain is expected to keep coming this week with heavy rain predicted on Tuesday and more likely on Wednesday.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 10 a.m. High near 80. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11 p.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Low around 63. South wind around 5 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Friday: A chance of showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
