3 Officers Promoted To Sergeant In Basking Ridge
The three full-time Sergeant positions became available following retirements within the police department.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Three police officers in Basking Ridge were recently promoted to sergeant following retirements within the department.
At the May 24 meeting, the township committee accepted the appointments of Steven Matthews, Brian Fallon, and Christopher Baxter to sergeant. All three had previously served in the township as officers.
Committeeperson Andrew McNally said he and Committeeperson Janice Fields had the opportunity to meet all of the officers being promoted to sergeant.

"They make extraordinary contributions to our community and will continue to do so in their new roles. Very impressive," said McNally.
The appointments of Matthews, Fallon, and Baxter will take effect on June 1 with an annual salary of $134,009.14 for a 40-hour workweek, according to the resolution.

Additionally at the meeting, the township committee accepted the resignation of Sergeant John Neiman. Neiman had served the township for more than 21 years.
"You have given generously of your time and efforts in a dignified, faithful and professional
manner... the Township Committee of the Township of Bernards sincerely appreciates the
worthwhile contributions you have made towards the material development, communal welfare, safety and quality of life in Bernards Township," according to the resolution.
As part of Neiman's retirement, he was entitled to an unused accrued time cash payment based on an hourly rate of $66.09 as required by the Township’s Personnel Policy and the PBA contract. Neiman will receive $26,898.63 for accrued sick/personal time payout and $21,264.46 for vacation time payout.
