5 Injured After Tanker Truck Overturns, Crushes Cars In Bernardsville

At least one person was taken by medivac helicopter to a hospital on Wednesday morning.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — Five people were injured after a tanker truck overturned and crushed two cars in Bernardsville on Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

On Oct. 2 at around 8:22 a.m.: the Bernardsville Police Department responded to a three-car motor vehicle crash on Anderson Hill Road just north of Seney Drive.

Officers immediately rendered first aid to the occupants of all three vehicles which included a 2018 Kenworth tractor trailer loaded with about 8,500 gallons of gasoline, said Bernardsville Police Captain Daniel A. Buttel.

Emergency personnel extricated one victim from a 2014 Mazda CX5 who was then taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital via a New Jersey State Police Medivac.

Four additional victims were taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital via ambulance and all
victims are reported to be in stable condition at this time.

The surrounding area was evacuated for safety precautions as emergency personnel worked to make the scene safe.

A preliminary investigation found that the tractor-trailer was traveling north on Anderson Hill Road when for an unknown reason lost power and began rolling backwards, said Buttel.

The tractor trailer began to jackknife before overturning onto the two vehicles directly behind who were also traveling north on Anderson Hill Road, said Buttel.

The Bernardsville Police Department recognized "all the responding agencies for their fast response and quick action in handling of this incident."
