$54K Unlocked Luxury SUV With Keys Inside Stolen In Basking Ridge

The owner of the SUV also left their wallet inside with about $600 in cash and credit cards, Bernards Township Police said.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A $54,000 luxury SUV that was left unlocked with the keys inside was stolen in Basking Ridge on Sunday, police said.

Sometime between 6:50 and 8:16 p.m. someone stole a 2018 grey Audi Q7, worth $54,000, from Carlisle Road. The SUV was left in the driveway unlocked with the key fob inside, Bernards Township Lt. Jon Burger said.

The owner of the SUV also left their wallet inside with about $600 in cash, four American express cards and two United credit cards, Burger said.

The SUV was later found on Thursday in Newark where it had been in an accident, Burger said.

"Please keep vehicles locked, without the keys in them and valuables out of sight. Pay attention to suspicious activity at neighbors’ residences and of vehicles that appear suspicious in parks and parking lots," police said.
