5k Race To Wellness To Be Held At Duke Island Park
The seventh annual 5k will be held Saturday March 28 at Duke Island Park at 9 a.m.

BRIDGEWATER – Get ready, set and go! The Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee and EmPoWER Somerset invite residents to put their best foot forward by participating at the seventh annual 5K Race to Wellness at 9 a.m., on Saturday, March 28, at Duke Island Park, located at 191 Old York Road, Bridgewater. The 5K course is flat, fast and USATF certified. Registration is required. Click here to register online.

“Each year, the county Employee Wellness Committee and EmPoWER Somerset host the 5K Race to Wellness for the benefit of the community and the county employees, and this year’s race is no exception,” said Somerset County Freeholder Director Shanel Robinson. “Come one, come all for a fun filled event, where I am challenging the Freeholders to join me in running/walking the course to help promote wellness.
“All proceeds from this year’s race will benefit non-profit organizations including EmPoWER Somerset, Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization and the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome and Associated Disorders, Inc. Please join us for a morning of friendly competition, camaraderie, and smiles,” she said.

Participants who pre-register will pay a $30 entry fee and will receive shirts and a goody bag, while supplies last. There is a $20 entrant fee for participants age 60 and above and age 19 and under. The cost for same-day registrants is $40. Awards will be presented to the top finishers. Join four-time track and field Olympian Joetta Clark Diggs who will lead a warm-up before the start of the race.
Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo, who is avid about fitness, will be running in the race and urges everyone to join. “My life revolves around promoting youth, safety, education and community in Somerset County,” said Sheriff Russo. “I believe a healthy person is a productive and happy person and this event fills that goal.”
“Health and wellness are central to Empower Somerset’s mission,” said Executive Director Brenda Esler. “We’re honored to be part of this annual event, which unites county and community organizations for promoting health and to support local nonprofits.” EmPoWER Somerset, is a co-sponsor of the 5K race to Wellness, a nonprofit agency whose mission is to assist individuals and families in making positive lifestyle choices.
The Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee is dedicated to improving and maintaining the health and well-being of employees. Simuel Whitfield Simmons Organization’s mission is to help improve the quality of life for families and youth residing in New Jersey, and help them gain access to resources. New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome and Associated Disorders Inc. provides a continuum of services, support and education for families with Tourette Syndrome.
