6 Deaths, 122 Coronavirus Cases In Basking Ridge

A large percentage of the increase can be attributed to the Lyons VA Medical Center and other facilities in the township, Mayor Baldassare.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township now has six deaths and 122 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus as of Tuesday, according to Somerset County. A large percentage of the increase can be attributed to the Lyons VA Medical Center and other facilities in the township, Mayor Jim Baldassare said.

The Lyons VA Medical Center along with several long-term care facilities and group homes have been reporting higher numbers of coronavirus cases. The Lyons Center entered 47 cases alone on Friday.

Baldassare sent out a note to bring some perspective to the current number of positive COVID-19 cases in town.

"...the numbers don't truly depict the Bernards Township population as a large number of the positive cases are centralized. The numbers are only those tested for COVID 19 and most of the affected are older people with existing chronic health issues," Baldassare said. "Knowing this, I want to continue to strongly encourage our residents to actively practice the preventative measures put in place for all of our safety. This is working and I have every confidence that all of your sacrifices will ultimately allow this to end sooner. Thank you all for your continued vigilance and lets stay the course."
