7 Kids Hospitalized For Chemical Exposure At Pleasant Valley Pool In Basking Ridge

The children were exhibiting symptoms consistent with chemical exposure including coughing, difficulty breathing, and vomiting, said police.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Seven kids were taken to a hospital following a chemical exposure at Pleasant Valley Pool in Basking Ridge on Friday.

On June 28 at 5:48 p.m., Bernards Township Police were called to the pool at 3410 Valley Road for children who had been exposed to a chemical substance.

The children were exhibiting symptoms consistent with chemical exposure including coughing, difficulty breathing, and vomiting, said police.

The children were treated at the pool by emergency responders before being taken to Morristown Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

A parent told police that the children were playing in the Gaga play put when the exposure happened.

The manager of the pool reportedly was working on the pool at the time. He was in he chemical shed using a chemical identified as Hypochlorite Solution.

The shed's exhaust fan reportedly turned on and began blowing the fumes in the direction of the gaga pit, said police.

The fire department washed down the affected area.
