“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” is the irresistible story of a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. Filled with foot-stomping, toe-tapping songs by Don Schlitz (“The Gambler”) and a book by Ken Ludwig, this musical adventure is a tale of thrilling escapes, comedy and inspiration for the whole family.
The show stars Jack Broderick of Bernardsville as Tom Sawyer. A student at Bernards High School, Jack starred on Broadway as Michael in Billy Elliott and Bruce in Matilda. Other stars of Tom Sawyer include Graham Helfrick of Mendham (Huck Finn), Molly McCarthy of Madison (Becky Thatcher) Patrick Mann of Caldwell (Injun Joe), and Stacey Petricha (Aunt Polly). The performances are directed and choreographed by Beth Amiano Gleason of Chester with Andrew Macirowski as the Musical Director, and Darlene Yannetta of Hackettstown as assistant director.
This is the first musical production at the English Barn Theater, which opened last fall with the The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Shakespeare’s The Tempest with the Lord Stirling Theater Company in May. Dating back to the 1700’s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the English Barn Theater at Farmstead Arts has been restored for use as a multipurpose space for theater, dances, concerts and other community uses thanks to funding from the Somerset County Historic Grant Program and the New Jersey Historic Trust.
The English Barn Theater is wheelchair accessible. Anyone anticipating the need for additional accessibility services is requested to make a request by sending an e-mail to the farmsteadartscenter@gmail.com in advance.
Funds for these events have been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through the State/County Partnership Local Arts Program Grant administered by The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
