Aging Cast-Iron Water Lines To Be Replaced In Basking Ridge
New Jersey American Water will replace the water lines that were installed as far back as the 1930s.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — New Jersey American Water will replace around 9,100 feet of aging water main in Basking Ridge and North Plainfield starting this month.
The company will upgrade the aging 6- and 8-inch cast-iron water lines that were installed as far back as the 1930s with new 8-inch ductile iron main along the following streets:

- Culberson Road from Spencer Road to South Alward Avenue
- Stoneybrook Road from Glen Avenue to Cottage Street
- Wedgewood Drive from Valley Road to the end of the street
The $3.5 million project also includes replacing 11 fire hydrants and 140 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.
Additionally, New Jersey American Water will replace any customer-owned service line that has been identified as lead or galvanized as part of a statewide initiative to remove all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.

Montana Construction, Inc. and CRJ Contracting, Inc. began work this week and expect to be completed within about two months in Bernards Township and three months in North Plainfield, weather permitting.
Work hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule.
Final street restorations will be completed in the spring of 2023.
The purpose of the project is to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community.

For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns
are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be
allowed access during construction. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its
workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
