BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Families in Somerset County are invited to spend part of Sunday, May 3, outdoors at the Environmental Education Center’s Discovery Day.
The Naturalist-led event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge, and is open to visitors who want to learn about the center’s programs, camps, and activities offered throughout the year.
Discovery Day is designed as a hands-on introduction to what the Environmental Education Center offers.
Visitors will be able to paddle canoes on the pond, play educational games about nature, use binoculars for birdwatching and tour the center’s exhibits and displays.
"The Environmental Education Center has something for everyone: canoeing, nature trails, exhibits, summer camps, and so much more," said Somerset County Park Commission Director Dan Hayes. "Discovery Day is a chance to learn more about what the EEC offers from the Naturalists who make the magic happen. I encourage everyone to come and join us."
A live animal presentation is also scheduled as part of the afternoon. The center has invited Eyes of the Wild for a show at 1 p.m., where animal educators will present facts about the animals they bring.
Past appearances have included a white arctic fox, a wallaby from Australia, and a giant boa constrictor that audience members had a chance to touch.
The event centers on outdoor exploration and environmental learning for families and other visitors interested in the site’s year-round programming.
Discovery Day will give attendees a chance to meet the Naturalists and see the range of activities available through the center.
