Garbage Fire Ignites In Truck In Peapack & Gladstone

A Peapack & Gladstone Police Officer used a fire extinguisher to contain the fire until firefighters came on Wednesday.

PEAPACK & GLADSTONE, NJ — Garbage caught fire inside a truck on Wednesday in Peapack & Gladstone.

At around 8:44 a.m., Peapack & Gladstone Police Officers went to St. Luke’s Avenue for a vehicle fire.

Officer Gino Schifano saw that a garbage truck operated by Interstate Waste Services of Teaneck had emptied its contents onto the ground, which was actively burning, said police.

Schifano promptly used the fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle to suppress and contain the fire until the Peapack & Gladstone Fire Department arrived.

Firefighters then mitigated the situation and fully extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The Peapack-Gladstone First Aid & Rescue and Somerset County Hazardous Materials Unit also came to help.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, said police.

St. Luke’s Avenue was reopened to traffic at around 11:49 a.m.
