Fraud, Theft, Warrant Arrests Reported In Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Theft, fraud, and warrant arrests were among the incidents reported in July in Basking Ridge.

During the above timeframe, Bernards Township Police officers responded to 31 motor vehicle crashes. There were five injuries reported and 14 motor vehicle summonses issued.

On July 1: A resident from Roberts Circle reported 19 fraudulent checks were created by an unknown person and withdrew $15,212.79 from the victim's bank account. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On July 2: A resident of Dickinson Road reported a scam in which the victim was defrauded out of around $5,000. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On July 7: Officer Kyle Mcartney conducted a motor vehicle stop and arrested Jahsir Velez, 25, of Carteret, for multiple outstanding ATS warrants from Union Twp, Newark, Orange, and Pequannock municipal courts, totaling $4,600. Velez was processed on scene and provided new court dates for each warrant and released on his own recognizance.

On July 16: The Walgreens in the Lyons Mall reported the theft of several packages from the FedEx storage cabinet located in the store. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On July 17: Officer Kyle McCartney initiated a motor vehicle stop and arrested Tyree Ware, 34, of Rahway, after it was discovered he had an outstanding ATS warrant out of Marlboro
Municipal Court. Ware was processed and turned over to the Marlboro Police Department.

On July 18: A resident from Prospect Avenue reported fraudulent activity involving their business checking account. An unknown actor gained access to the account and withdrew $450. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On July 21: Det. Will Krajicek, through investigative means, identified Antwan Barbour, 25, of Basking Ridge, as the suspect who stole cash from a tip jar at The Stone Bean located in the Dewy Meadows Shopping Center. Barbour was issued a summons for theft by unlawfully taking moveable property and will have a future court date.

On July 24: A resident of Martinsville Road reported unauthorized withdrawal from their business account for $47,801.63. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On July 28: A resident from Sky Farm reported the possible theft of a gold pendant from inside the home. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On July 30: A resident from Long Road reported their identity was stolen by an individual who created a fake NJ driver's license and made fraudulent phone and banking transactions in the victim's name. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

"The Bernard's Township Police would like to continue to remind everyone to report suspicious activity observed by calling 908-766-1122. Please keep vehicles locked, without the keys in them and valuables out of sight. Please confirm all suspicious calls/emails/texts/messages requesting monetary payments with law enforcement or banking officials before sending funds," said police.
