Troop 54, Liberty Corner, would like to announce one of our newest Eagle Scouts, Ian Scheper. As of 6:38 PM, February 11th 2026, he reached his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. Ian started in Cub Scouts in first grade and crossed over into Troop 54 Liberty Corner in sixth grade. The final step in reaching this goal was completing his Eagle Scout project.
Ian's Eagle project was a mile-long compass course at Pleasant Valley Park in Basking Ridge. He led the project and raised funds, designed the route, and installed 23 markers along it. He also built and installed a large sign for the course and created a website so that anyone visiting the park can run the course on their own. There will be many people in our community who will reap the benefits of a permanent orienteering course: Scouts working on their navigation requirements, Cub Scout dens, and members of the public alike.
When asked, Ian stated that the most valuable lesson he learned in Scouts was leadership. He states: "The most important lesson I have learned is how to manage large groups of people effectively and to set a good example for the people under you in rank." Ian worked diligently throughout Scouts to obtain the achievement of Eagle Scout, and the scale of his project — 23 markers, a sign, a website, and a mile of trail — reflects that effort.
Outside of Scouting, Ian skateboards, plays Magic: The Gathering, and plays drum set in a metal band.
Congratulations, Ian, on this accomplishment, and best of luck in your final months of senior year and in college.
