"Nate will be starting the police academy in Passaic on Nov. 9 and he's scheduled to graduate in the spring and we congratulate Nate and welcome him to the department," said Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy.

Thomson's hire to the full-time position of Patrol Officer became available due to a vacancy in the department.

The Township Committee previously approved his appointment at its Aug. 25 meeting.

Thomson's start date is Wednesday, Nov. 4, at an annual salary of $55,992.
