Basking Ridge Junior Girl Scout Troop Donates to HopeLine During Holidays

Through a coordinated effort, Basking Ridge Junior Girl Scout Troop #61076 collected old cell phones, chargers, batteries and respective accessories throughout the fall and donated them to HopeLine, a Verizon Wireless community program designed to collect no-longer-used cell phones which are provided to victims of domestic violence.  On Thursday, Nov. 29, the Girl Scouts brought their collected donations to Verizon’s headquarters in Basking Ridge where they were greeted by Coach Mark and his team at Verizon.  They gave the girls an enthusiastic welcome and were very appreciative of the girls’ efforts to help victims of domestic violence.  The girls collected 148 phones/chargers which far exceeded their goal.  Late donations continue to be brought to the troop.

Junior Girl Scout troop members include Kate Mercer, Abby Marazita, Emma Lake, Miah Vesotsky, Meghan Hausser, and Megha Parikh.  The girls are led by Troop Leaders Elizabeth Mercer and Kathleen Marazita.

Domestic violence touches all of us. Nearly one in four women, one in seven men, and over three million children have been affected by domestic violence. HopeLine gives domestic violence victims and survivors back their voice.  HopeLine provides cell phones so that those in need can have a way to call for help.  Wireless phones and technology serve as a vital link to emergency or support services in a time of crisis or as a reliable, safe connection to employers, family, and friends as survivors rebuild their lives.
