The Songbird Volunteer Group is ecstatic to announce their 2019 Summer Camp!

For the past 6 months, the Songbird Volunteer Group has worked tirelessly to make their vision of a Songbird Summer Camp come to life. Not only does the Songbird sweep the streets and packing books, but they also have been holding meetings to plan for the long-awaited summer camp. The Songbird is extremely excited to welcome enthusiastic campers to learn and have an unforgettable summer!

For the past two days, 4 members and 2 adults worked to make this idea become a reality. Although they were all tired from working many straight hours, they were able to create medical release forms, media release forms, and permission slips. In order to ensure that everything flows smoothly when the anticipated week arrives, they also created a schedule for the five-day camp. To help spread the word of this camp, the members then designed a flyer to hang up around town encouraging campers all around New Jersey to sign up.

The official mission statement for the Songbird Volunteer Group is to learn Chinese through cultural activities, while enjoying the last glimpse of Summer. Whether it be through Chinese arts and crafts or chinese yo-yo, the campers will definitely go home culturally enlightened and eager to learn more. To elaborate on the variety of classes the camp will offer, Moses Yang, a rising freshman will teach both American and Chinese chess. Amy Yang will teach Chinese yoyo, traditional Chinese games, as well as Chinese folk dance! Humphrey Chen will teach crafts such as origami and drawing, as well as painting. Finally, Charlize Chen, an incoming Wellesley College freshmen will be teaching public affairs and creative writing. The camp is set to start on August 12th and end on August 16th. In order to encapsulate the five days of camp, the campers will be showcasing what they have learned in a local performance. Everyone will work together to plan out astounding dances, magic acts, and lively skits! The camp slogan will be: “Songbird, Songbird, in the sky. Spread our wings and we will fly” to soar higher everyday.
