Baseball: America's National Pastime Featured at USGA Golf Museum

Baseball and golf are great reminders that spring is just around the corner.

The USGA Golf Museum, located in Liberty Corner, NJ, is featuring two temporary exhibits for the month of March. While both celebrate baseball and the approach of spring, one also celebrates Women's History Month.

The first exhibit highlights Babe Didrikson Zaharias, the greatest female athlete of the 20th Century. Zaharias, a three-time U.S. Women's Open champion was also co-founder of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. However, her prowess at America's "national pastime, began early. Named Mildred at birth, Zaharias was given the nickname "Babe" after she emulated baseball legend Babe Ruth by hitting five home runs in one childhood game.

The second exhibit tells the story of Jackie Robinson and his transition to golf following his retirement from baseball in 1956. He was a six-time All-Star during his 10-year Hall of Fame career and an outspoken critic of exclusionary policies that remained in golf.
