Basking Ridge 12-Year-Old Earns 3 Ribbons At New Jersey State Fair

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Josiah Irwin, 12, of Basking Ridge won three ribbons at the New Jersey State Fair that ran from Aug. 4 through 12.

Irwin's Mari the Narwhal took first place ribbon, Simon the Meerkat took 2nd place ribbon, and Snorky the Elephant took 3rd place ribbon.

The ribbons were awarded from the Creative Arts for Home and Hobby Category for Crochet - Dolls/Toys ages 9 to 12 (Professional or someone who sells or offers for sale any item in the category.)

Judges’ decisions are based on overall workmanship, general appearance, and neatness.

Irwin is a lifelong homeschooler and a self-taught fiber artist.

Irwin started crocheting at age 6 and knitting at 12. At age 11 Irwin began to create items to sell when in order to buy a professional unicycle.

Last year, Irwin raised enough money selling amigurumi creations to purchase it.
