Basking Ridge Dancer To Perform Nutcracker In Warren
The 6th grader was inspired to dance from her grandmother, a former New York City Rockette.

WARREN, NJ — Inspired by her grandmother to dance, Basking Ridge’s Athena Bernaz will be performing the Nutcracker at the Watchung Hills Regional High School on Dec. 17.
Bernaz will be performing as part of the Broadway Dance Theatre group from North Plainfield. She will be dancing as Clara in the performance.
“I started dancing when I was two,” Bernaz told Patch. “Dancing is my favorite.”

Bernaz, a sixth grader at William Annin Middle School, has studied all types of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and more. Ballet is her favorite.
Although this is Bernaz’s sixth time performing the Nutcracker this is her first time playing Clara.

“I’m super excited that I can perform in front of other people and happy,” Bernaz said.
Bernaz’s love of dance came from her grandmother, who is a former Rockette.
“I’d really like to become a Rockette in New York City,” Bernaz said. “My grandma teaches me tap and some ballet.”

Showtimes for the show are at 3 and 7 p.m. Bernaz will be performing in the 7 p.m. show.
