Basking Ridge To Host Another Special Meeting to Discuss USDOJ Lawsuit

The lawsuit brought by the United States Justice Department against Bernards Township is in regard to the Islamic Mosque denial.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Committee will hold another special meeting on Jan. 9 to discuss the ongoing lawsuit between the town and the United States Department of Justice regarding the Islamic Mosque denial.

The meeting will be held in the Municipal Building, 1 Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. in open session and immediately adjourn to Executive Session to discuss ISBR v. Bernards Township et al – Case 16:cv-01369 (MAS) v. (LHG); USDOJ v. Bernards Township et al – Case 3:15-cv-08700-MAS-LHG, Bernards Township v. QBE Specialty Insurance Company/Summit Risk Services et al – Arbitration Case 01-16-0003-5508.

Formal action may be taken after returning to open session.

The USDOJ filed the lawsuit against Bernards Township in November 2016 alleging discrimination after the Township's Planning Board unanimously voted down an application to build an Islamic mosque on Church Street in December 2015.
