Basking Ridge Man Arrested For Impersonating An Officer

Bruce Cohen of Basking Ridge was in possession of a U.S. Marshal badge, a loaded 9 mm starter pistol, NJ State Police report

Basking Ridge, NJ -- A Basking Ridge resident was arrested Wednesday for impersonating a law enforcement officer, New Jersey State troopers announced.

Bruce Cohen, 57 was arrested on Wednesday, March 16, after troopers from the Mobile Safe Freight Unit stopped Cohen in his 2016 red Kia Sorrento on southbound Interstate 287 for a traffic violation.

During the stop, troopers noticed a U.S. Marshals' badge hanging around his neck. After investigating the situation, troopers determine Cohen was not a U.S. Marshal and was not authorized to wear that badge, according to NJ State Police.

Cohen was also found to be in possession of a loaded 9 mm starter pistol, which is used at track and field events, a holster, and other U.S. Marshal items, according to police.

He was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was released pending a future court appearance.
