Basking Ridge Singer To Open For NBC's 'The Voice' Winner

Brynn Stanley of Basking Ridge is the opening act for Jordan Smith, winner of NBC's The Voice season 9, on Sunday, April 2 in MPAC.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — As a child, Brynn Stanley would sing at the piano inside her Basking Ridge home and now she is the opening act for Jordan Smith, winner of NBC’s The Voice season 9, on Sunday.

“I’m humbled and so excited to be performing with Jordan Smith,” Stanley said. “It doesn’t quite feel real yet. He is unbelievably talented and I am grateful to be on same stage as him. It is such an incredible opportunity.”

Stanley will be singing originals from her debut album “Hello, California” with guitarist Deen Anbar on April 2 at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown.

“I have been singing my whole life, but I didn’t start professionally, until my sophomore year of college,” Stanley told Patch.

Stanley, grew up in Basking Ridge where she would sing at her family’s piano with her sister. In her sophomore year at Fairleigh Dickinson University it hit her to audition for the musical “Hair”, where she got the lead.

“That made me think, ‘Oh!’ I have something,” Stanley said.

“I didn’t know I was following a career, I thought I was following curiosity and things just got a little bigger and bigger,” Stanley said.

After college, Stanley began singing in restaurants and making a little extra cash. Then she moved to California where she would sing at weddings and special events.

It wasn’t until 2015, when she wrote her debut album “Hello, California.” Stanley describes her music as "vintage pop."

“It is basically like if Sara Bareilles and Michael Bublé had a baby,” Stanley said.

Brynn’s album covers several musical styles from the acoustic pop style of (“Be My Summertime”) to a 50’s style ballad (“Black And White”) to the jazzy (“Match”). Her debut single and music video is “Be My Summertime.”

“Hello, California,” Stanley’s first original album is available on iTunes and Amazon. This summer, Brynn will be releasing an EP that is being recorded in California with Musician/Producer Tony Guerrero and Grammy Nominated Engineer Jorge Vivo.
