Basking Ridge Students Evacuated After Report of School Bus Fire

Cause was an overheated brake line

Basking Ridge High School students were evacuated from a school bus today at 2:58 p.m. due to a report of a school bus fire on Lake Road, said Jack McGrath, Basking Ridge Fire Company #1 Assistant Fire Chief.

Basking Ridge Fire Company #1 and Emergency Services Company responded and found about 10 to 12 high school students and the driver outside the bus.

The cause was an overheated brake line, said McGrath.

Upon arrival there was no flame present, just smoking, McGrath said. The use of fire extinguishers were used.

There were no injuries and students were redirected onto another school bus.
