Bernards Inn to Become Speakeasy
The historic, 109 year old Bernards Inn was a local speakeasy in the 1920's. The Historical Society of the Somerset Hill is bringing it back
The historic, 109 year old Bernards Inn was a local speakeasy in the 1920’s. Join The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills (THSSH) at the historic Bernards Inn for a return to its Speakeasy days of the 1920’s as we host two New Jersey craft distillers for a talk and taste event - Distilling in the Somerset Hills.
“We’re really excited to bring this unique event to the area that combines our history with such a great social event,” says Brooks Betz, Trustee of The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills. “This is the first time we’re going to showcase stories of bootlegging and distilling in our area, and also showcase the journey of two local craft distillers that are distilling some of the nation’s top craft spirits,” Betz added. Guests at this event will be able to taste everything distilled by Claremont Distilled Spirits and Jersey Artisan Distillery. Tastings include award winning vodkas, moonshine, whiskey, peach & blueberry vodka, light and dark rums, and a few surprise entries! Guests will also receive a number of speakeasy gifts including a commemorative whiskey glass, and a complimentary 2017 membership to THSSH.
For guests who prefer non-signature drinks, a regular cash bar will be available. 1920’s period dress is optional. The Vintage Clothing tent at the VNA Rummage Sale in Far Hills, October 7, 8 & 9, might have just the piece you need! Consider "train-pooling" and take the NJ Transit “Speakeasy Express” from several locations within the Somerset Hills. The Bernards Inn is located directly across from the train station.
