Bernards Library Schedules Computer Skills Classes for Job Seekers

Classes set to begin next Tuesday on series to upgrade computer skills for job seekers.

The is offering free classes designed to improve computer skills especially designed for job readiness and job search skills.

The series begins next Tuesday, April 26, and continues through May 24. Registration beforehand is required. The library is closed on Friday for the Good Friday holiday, but will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Job Readiness Computer Training Classes will focus on the basic computer skills needed by every job applicant today in order to make them more confident and self sufficient.

Classes will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays in Program Room B on the lower level of the library at 32 S. Maple Ave. The schedule is as follows:

  • Internet Explorer:   April 26
    • Basic usage of the Internet, understanding web site addresses, using major search engines, elements of a web search with specific emphasis on web based job searches.
  • Email:   May 10
    • Proper usage of web based email, email etiquette, responding to job listings, and online applications.  Each participant needing an email address will be assisted in the creation of a free personal email account.
  • Microsoft Windows:   May 17
    • Gain a basic understanding of the personal computer and operations in the Microsoft Windows environment including proper start-up and shut-down of the operating system, running application programs, managing and organizing files, folders, and printing.
  • Microsoft Word:   May 24
    • Learn the basic elements of Microsoft Word.  Emphasis will be on the development of a resume and cover letter. 

      All courses will be delivered at a basic user level, last 4 hours and be built around workforce development skills.  Each student will work on a laptop computer for hands-on experience. 

Registration is required for these classes.  Participants may choose one, some, or all classes as long as space is available.
