Fall Adult Book Club Meetings Announced At Bernards Township Library

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township Library is inviting readers to join one of three adult book clubs this fall, including a new outdoor Walk & Talk Book Club.

The library’s fall lineup also includes its Evening Book Discussion and Daytime Book Discussion groups.

According to the library, the clubs are designed to help readers discover new books, hear different perspectives, make connections with other readers and enjoy conversation in a community setting.

The library said the groups are open to avid readers, people trying to get back into reading and those who are simply curious about what others are talking about.

The Evening Book Discussion group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Bernards Township Library.

This fall, the group will discuss "By the Sea" by Abdulrazak Gurnah on Sept. 1 and "The Devil at His Elbow: Alex Murdaugh and the Fall of a Southern Dynasty" by Valerie Bauerlein on Oct. 6.

The Daytime Book Discussion meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m.

The fall selections are "The Lathe of Heaven" by Ursula K. Le Guin on Sept. 16 and "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry on Oct. 21.

The new Walk & Talk Book Club will meet outdoors at Pleasant Valley Park for a walk and discussion about the month’s selection.

According to the library, the club combines reading, socializing and time outdoors in a relaxed setting.

This fall, Walk & Talk participants will discuss "The Correspondent" by Virginia Evans on Sept. 22 and "My Friends" by Fredrik Backman on Oct. 20.

The group meets at 9:30 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Park, beginning near the picnic pavilion by the restrooms.

Walks will be held rain or shine, and participants are encouraged to dress for the anticipated weather.

The library said readers do not need to be expert readers or finish every page to take part in a discussion. New members are welcome.

Copies of upcoming titles are available in advance at the Adult Circulation Desk through the Friends of Bernards Township Library, and many titles are also available through the library’s digital collections.
