Bernards Township Library Opens Summer Reading Season With Events, Rewards
The Bernards Township Library's summer program runs June 13 through Sept. 5 for children, teens and adults.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Readers of all ages can take part in the Bernards Township Library’s summer reading season, which begins June 13 and continues through Sept. 5.
The library’s “Unearth a Story” themed Summer Reading Challenge includes reading activities, events and rewards for children, along with separate programs for teens and adults.
Children of all ages and abilities are invited to join, whether they are pre-readers or independent readers.

Participants can register at the Children’s Desk and receive a reading log to track their reading time. As sections of the log are completed, children can return to the library to collect a reward.
The Bernards Township Library also has a summer lineup of family-friendly events tied to the reading season.

Programs include:
- Mini Golf at the Library on June 19 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
- Dinosaurs Arise! on June 20 at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
- Magic Show: “Unearth a MAGICAL Story” on June 23 at 6:30 p.m.
Other events include:
- Be a Paleontologist on June 30 at 6:30 p.m.
- Science Heroes: “Digging In” on July 14 at 6:30 p.m.
- A virtual “Let’s Draw Dinosaurs” cartooning workshop on July 16 at 6:30 p.m.
The schedule continues with Didgeridoo Down Under on July 29 at 6:30 p.m. and The Strange World of Reptiles on Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The library is also planning Storytimes, StoryWalk at Pleasant Valley Park, Monday Movies, Book Bingo, Summer Chess Club, crafts and other activities during the season.
Teens and adults can join the library’s “Bookopoly” Reading Challenge, which is inspired by the classic board game.
Participants read through the game board, collect properties and earn entries for grand prize drawings.
The Teen Reading Challenge is open to students entering grades 7 through 12 and is intended to encourage reading while helping teens maintain and strengthen reading skills during the summer months.
Registration for all summer reading challenges is free and available online or in person at the Bernards Township Library, 32 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge.
