Bernards Township Plans Celebrations For 2026 FIFA World Cup

Local leaders are planning soccer-themed events and cultural celebrations for the upcoming international tournament.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township is preparing to host a series of community-centered activities in anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The region will serve as a host for tournament matches, bringing international attention and visitors to New Jersey.

"Bernards Township is preparing to take part in the excitement by organizing several community-centered activities that will celebrate soccer, culture, and our local businesses," said Committeewoman Jennifer Asay at the March 10 Committee meeting.

Efforts include partnerships with the local youth soccer community and plans for residents to watch matches together.

A signature community event is scheduled for June to highlight international culture and the spirit of the tournament.

The initiative aims to celebrate soccer while supporting local businesses throughout the summer.

Over the coming months, Asay said the Township will continue coordinating with regional partners, including Somerset County Tourism and Economic Development, as well as the World Cup New York, New Jersey Host Committee, to ensure Bernards Township can participate in and benefit from this historic event.

"I am leading the planning for the Township, working very closely with our mayor and other key stakeholders. We look forward to sharing more details with the community as plans continue to develop," said Asay.

"We're very excited about this activating Bernards, and it's just like worlds colliding. We have the 250th anniversary. We have the FIFA World Cup. So, it's a lot going on, and we have a great partnership with the Somerset County Office of Economic Development. So, a lot to be excited about," said Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy.

FIFA World Cup 2026 will feature 48 teams from around the globe competing. The competition will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford from June 11 to July 19.
