Bernards Township Police Chief To Retire

Bernards Township Police Chief Brian Bobowicz is retiring and Michael Shimsky was appointed to serve as acting Police Chief in the meantime.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township Police Chief Brian Bobowicz will be retiring after serving the department for more than 30 years.

The Bernards Township Committee passed a resolution at Tuesday's night meeting commending Bobowicz for his 30 and a half years of service with the police department.

During his tenure, Bobowicz served as a patrol officer, sergeant, lieutenant, captain and chief of police.

"The Township Committee of the Township of Bernards sincerely appreciates the worthwhile contributions you have made towards the material development, communal welfare, safety and quality of life in Bernards Township," the resolution states.

Bobowicz finished his duties on Dec. 31, 2017, but will formally retire on April 1 to start the next chapter of his life.

Michael Shimsky was appointed by the township committee to serve as acting Police Chief and officer in charge, effective Jan. 24, until Bobowicz's formal retirement on April 1.

Shimsky formally served as deputy chief and operations and officer of emergency management coordinator.
