Repeated JCP&L Power Outages Prompt Investigation Request By Bernards Township
The Township is asking residents, who were negatively impacted by storm/outage incidents, to contact them.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — After repeated power outages from JCP&L, Bernards Township is requesting a reliability investigation and asking residents for help.
"Bernards Township and JCP&L continue to have conversations regarding the recent storms and outages," said Mayor Jennifer Asay in a letter to residents. "As we are working closely together, Bernarss Township has requested reliability investigations into our Bernards Township infrastructure."
The Township is asking all residents who have been negatively affected by storm/outage incidents on June 26, June 30, July 6, or July 9 to send Asay an email at jasay@bernards.org by July 15 at noon with the following information: Name, address, phone number, email, and any details you can provide about the resulting power outages you incurred on those dates.

"With your assistance, we can provide this information to JCP&L so their investigation can be properly targeted and thorough to determine what, if any, issues exist in our town and engineer solutions to mitigate what they find," said Asay.
JCP&L Spokesman Christopher Hoenig said the utility company works closely with all municipalities they serve to engage with local officials and their communities before, during and after storm response.

"After every major event of a high magnitude, such as the widespread storms we've seen in the past month, JCP&L conducts an after-action review of our response," said Hoenig.
"With Bernards, we have been working closely with Mayor Asay, the council and town administrators throughout the storm response process," continued Hoenig. "We look forward to continuing to work alongside the mayor and appreciate her engagement as we assess the infrastructure and outages that occurred in the area."
