A 13-year-old boy died Monday after he was hit in a bicycle crash in Somerset County, police said.

A 13-year-old boy died Monday after he was hit in a bicycle crash in Somerset County, police said.

The bicyclist was identified as Andrew Russoniello, 13, of the Somerset section of Franklin Township.

At 5:21 p.m., the Franklin Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a child had been struck by a vehicle on Amwell Road at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue.

The initial investigation revealed that Robert Terracciano, 23, of Red Bank was travelling westbound on Amwell Road in a 2013 Nissan Versa when a bicyclist that was attempting to turn left onto Elizabeth Avenue crossed in front of him, police said.

Russoniello was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after 11 p.m., police said. Terracciano was uninjured in the crash.

Members of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau responded to the scene to investigate the crash. Amwell Road was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation. At this time no charges have been filed, and there is an ongoing investigation into the crash.
