The Raconteur Presents "Room to Swing an Ax"

ROOM TO SWING AN AX is a Southern Americana Gothic song cycle / memoiristic monodrama blending live music, storytelling, ghosts, buried secrets, and the kind of folklore that sticks to your bones.This performance weaves spoken word with nine bluesy, biographical ballads that pull you through the mud, blood, beauty, and brutality of Dawson’s upbringing on a haunted horse farm in rural Alabama. From the creators who brought us last year’s The Devil & Daisy Dirt, we’re so excited to welcome back Alex Dawson and Arlan Feiles.

Presenters: Alex Dawson is a writer, director, and full-time faculty member at Rutgers University who teaches creative writing, folklore, and horror. His work blends magical realism, Appalachian culture, and gritty barroom storytelling. Arlan Feiles is an award winning Singer Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist and Music Producer. Discovered and mentored by the late great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Record Producer Tom Dowd, Arlan has gone on to release 6 critically acclaimed records, and had his music heard in many TV programs and movies, including the trailer for the Academy award winning film “The Dallas Buyers Club”. Arlan is equally known for his efforts supporting voting and civil rights.
