Friends of Great Swamp NWR and USFWS will host the fall Third Saturday Guided Walk on the White Oak Trail on Saturday October 17, 2026, from 1:30-3:00 PM.
The White Oak Trail, across Pleasant Plains Rd. from the Helen C Fenske Visitor Center, is a microcosm of the habitat diversity found at Great Swamp. Walkers will learn about the habitats, history, plants, and animals along the trail. The focus of this walk will be locating and identifying fungi along the trail. As this is a refuge trail, no dogs are allowed.
Friends volunteer naturalist, Dorothy Smullen, will lead this walk. Registration is not necessary. Walkers will meet in the parking lot at the Helen C. Fenske Visitor Center, 32 Pleasant Plains Road, Harding Township 07920.
