Catalytic Convertors Stolen From Cars In Basking Ridge

The Bernards Township Police blotter also included warrant arrests, a Facebook Messenger scam, altered checks, and more.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Multiple catalytic converters were reported stolen, warrant arrests, altered checks and more were reported in Basking Ridge.

Bernards Township Police blotter for May:

During the above timeframe, Bernards Township Police officers responded to 28 motor vehicle crashes. There were three injuries reported and 13 motor vehicle summonses issued.

On May 1: Officer Kyle McCartney initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of the King George Exxon. McCartney contacted the driver of the vehicle and discovered he had an
outstanding NCIC warrant from the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office for Criminal Mischief for $10,000. McCartney placed Javonne Perry, 28, of East Brunswick, under arrest for the warrant. Perry was able to post the 10 percent requirement for the cash bail and was provided with a new court date and released on his own recognizance.

On May 4: The South Brunswick Police Department advised our department that they had several warrants for Amir Sadek 24, of Orlando, FL, who was possibly staying at his grandmother’s home on Lindbergh Lane. Officer Tyler Widitz contacted Sadek in the parking lot of the Bernards Township Library. Sadek was arrested for the warrant without incident and turned over to the South Brunswick Police Department.

On May 7: Affinity Credit Union reported a check they wrote for $42,572.50 was intercepted in the mail and forged to be written to an unknown individual. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 9: Residents from Hillside Terrace and Evergreen Place reported the theft of a catalytic converter from their motor vehicles. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 14: A resident of Potomac Drive fell victim to a Facebook Messenger scam in which they sent $1,500 to a friends account that was unknowingly hacked. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 15: A resident of Jeffrey Court reported someone opened a credit union account in their name. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 15: A resident of Manchester Drive reported $6,000 was missing from a safe in the home. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 16: A resident from Oak Ridge Road reported a check they mailed was intercepted and altered to pay an unknown source. The check was written for $6,000. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 28: A resident from Commonwealth Drive reported unauthorized withdrawals from their banking institution totaling $7,000.88 between November 2024 and January 2025. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

On May 28: A resident from Mayflower Drive reported a Facebook group selling scam in which they lost $495. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

"The Bernard’s Township Police would like to continue to remind everyone to report suspicious activity
observed by calling 908-766-1122. Please keep vehicles locked, without the keys in them and valuables out of
sight. Please confirm all suspicious calls/emails/texts/messages requesting monetary payments with law enforcement or banking officials before sending funds," said police.
