A Bit Crispy: Truck Carrying Lettuce Ignites On I-287 In Basking Ridge: Video, Photos

Basking Ridge Volunteers Firefighters "fought hard to save the lettuce but alas, the fire would win!"

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A tractor-trailer hauling lettuce ignited into flames while driving on Interstate-287 in Basking Ridge earlier this week. (See video below)

Basking Ridge Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 was called out around 5 a.m. on Tuesday for a truck fire on I-287 South located just south of Exit 30 for North Maple Avenue in Bernards Township.

There were no injuries as the truck driver was able to separate the cab from the trailer, said Basking Ridge Fire Co. No 1 & EMS.

"Dave's Towing is the rotator and crew that removed the trailer after it was fully extinguished," said Basking Ridge Fire Co. No 1 & EMS.

The fire ended up causing two of the four lanes to close and was cleaned up by around 8 a.m.
