Colonial Time Fun At 1770s Festival Hosted By Somerset County

Visitors will see history come alive through 18th-century re-enactors and musicians playing authentic colonial music.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Enjoy colonial-time fun with the entire family at the 1770s Festival, which is sponsored by the Somerset County Park Commission’s Environmental Education Center (EEC). The event will be held on Oct. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Lord Stirling Manor, located at 96 Lord Stirling Road (off South Maple Ave), Basking Ridge. If there is heavy rain, the festival will take place at the EEC on 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge. Dogs are not allowed. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person.

Visitors will see history come alive through eighteenth-century re-enactors and musicians playing authentic colonial music. The festival will also feature colonial crafts, trade demos, Revolutionary War militias, and a cider pressing demonstration.

Lord Stirling and the Stirling Manor
William Alexander, also known as Lord Stirling, was one of the most loyal military subordinates to George Washington during the American Revolution. His property is now part of Lord Stirling Park and included in the National Register of Historic Places since May 22, 1978.

Environmental Education Center (EEC)
The EEC at Lord Stirling Park offers approximately nine miles of hiking trails, programs led by Naturalists, school field trips, fun festivals, nature-themed exhibits, facility and classroom rentals, a resource library, science and conservation research, and more. The EEC’s goal is to improve environmental literacy in Somerset County and beyond.
