Counting Of Somerset County Vote-by-Mail Ballots Suspended

A court order has suspended the counting of vote-by-mail ballots in Somerset County on Tuesday night due to the "overwhelming" numbers.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A court order has suspended the counting of vote-by-mail ballots on Election night, Tuesday due to the overwhelming numbers received, which may total more than 19,000 to 20,000, according to Somerset County Clerk Steve Peter.

Jerry Midgette, administrator of the board of elections for Somerset County sought a court order for the suspension.

Judge Ciccone granted the request, suspending the count at 8 p.m. Tuesday night, to be resumed Wednesday at 9 a.m.

"Therefore, I will not have any vote-by-mail results tonight. We will update our site as soon as we have results," Peter said.
