Driver Seriously Hurt, Airlifted To Hospital Following I-78 Crash

The driver crossed over from the eastbound to westbound lanes and rolled several times on I-78 in Bernards Township Friday morning.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A man is in serious condition following a crash on I-78 westbound in Bernards Township Friday morning.

A man, whose identity is unknown at this time, was driving a Nissan Xterra eastbound on I-78 crossed over into the westbound lanes at around 6:16 a.m., State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele told Patch.

The SUV then rolled over several times in the area of mile marker 32.9 just west of Exit 33 - CR 525/Liberty Corner Road/Martinsville. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Peele said.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center with serious injuries, Peele said.

As a result of the crash and investigation, the left and center lanes were closed causing up to an hour delay for a few hours. The roadway was reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
