Dancing in September: The Songbird Cleans Finley Avenue
On September 4th, the Songbird Youth Volunteer Group maintained Finley Avenue, picking up waste and ensuring a clean community for all.
On Tuesday, September 4th, the Songbird Youth Volunteer Group maintained Finley Avenue once again, walking through town and picking up waste on the side of the road. The Songbird is part of the Adopt-A-Road Program. As part of this program, the Songbird dedicates itself to cleaning the streets of a town at least four times a year.
There were three volunteers and two parents who took part in the street sweeping. Although it is the beginning of September, these volunteers still walked through the oppressive heat of the lingering summer season. Despite the muggy weather, the Songbird traversed through the streets of Basking Ridge with an upbeat attitude. Donned in orange vests and filled with boundless enthusiasm, the volunteers collected recyclables (such as water bottles and metal cans), as well as non-recyclable waste (cigarette butts, paper scraps, food wrappers).
In addition, the three volunteers that swept Finley Avenue today are all from Ridge High School. The first day of school starts on Thursday, September 6th, and the volunteers are grateful to start school on the right note. Although going into the new school year is frightening and nerve-wracking, we look forward to every time we are able to come together as a collective group and give back to the community.

All of the volunteers of Songbird are extremely appreciative to be a high-school volunteer, as community service is an integral part of all of our lives. From the Adopt-A-Road program to the senior home performances, the Songbird wishes to spread the love of volunteering with those around them. From the Songbird to you, we wish everyone a successful school year and an abundant fall.
