December Black Bear Hunting Permits On Sale Wednesday

Breaking: New Jersey Black Bear Hunting permits for the Dec. 4 through 9 season go on sale at 10 a.m. on Nov. 1.

New Jersey Black Bear Hunting permits for the Dec. 4 through 9 season go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday. This is the second segment of the 2017 black bear hunting season, the first was recently held from Oct. 9 to 14.

A total of 243 bears were killed in the October hunt from eight counties including Sussex, Warren, Passaic, Morris, Bergen, Hunterdon, Somerset and Mercer. The most bears were killed in Sussex County with 136 and zero were killed in Somerset and Mercer counties.

The December hunt is for firearms only and is held concurrently with the six-day Firearm Deer Season. There is the option for the season to be extended the following week if harvest objectives are not met, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Participants are required to have a Black Bear Hunting Permit for the zone(s) they hunt in and a valid NJ hunting license.

Five bear hunting zones are open to hunting, however, hunters are restricted to hunting only in the zone(s) for which they possess a permit.

Hunters can get permits for two separate zones, which are valid for the entire season. Permits will be available at license agents and online.
