Democrats Endorse Dr. Sophia Chadda for Bernards Twp. Committee

Chadda brings STEM background to solving township issues and making decisions with a fact and evidence-based approach

BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ, March 18, 2019 – The Bernards Township Democratic Committee (BTDC) announces its endorsement of Dr. Sophia Chadda for Bernards Township Committee. Chadda will run on the Democratic line in the election this November.

Chadda has lived in Bernards Township for 20 years and has raised her three children here. She has been practicing as a board-certified periodontist for 19 years. In 2004, Chadda established a dental practice on Stonehouse Road in Basking Ridge, which has grown and thrived over the past 15 years. A graduate of Barnard College and SUNY Buffalo Dental School, she completed her periodontal residency at Rutgers Dental School (formerly UMDNJ) and conducted research on the link between cardiovascular disease and dental disease.

A former assistant professor of periodontics at Rutgers Dental School, Chadda is the past president of the Tri-County Dental Society of NJ and the past treasurer of the New Jersey Society of Periodontists. She was awarded “Top Dentist” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine in 2014 and 2015. Chadda also is on the board of trustees of the International Foundation for Progress, which runs a free school and health clinic for 175 children in Pakistan and aims to provide education and healthcare to other impoverished children in the developing world.

Chadda is a participant in Leadership Somerset, a county program that supports leaders dedicated to their local communities. Locally, she has served on the Bernards Township Board of Health. She also volunteers at the local public and private schools her children attend and is a trustee of the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge.

“As a local business owner, practicing dentist, and parent of students in elementary school, high school, and college, I have a broad perspective,” Chadda said. “With my STEM background, I employ a fact- and evidence-based approach to solving problems and making decisions. I want to foster greater communication between elected officials and residents of our town and facilitate the participation of more of my fellow residents in our civic affairs. I would be honored to serve my township neighbors and work to improve our future together.”

The Bernards Township Democrats enthusiastically endorsed Chadda at its March 11th committee meeting. “We look forward to continuing the trend of electing level-minded, forward-thinking, and professional leaders to office,” said Nancy D’Andrea, BTDC chair. “Our residents are more engaged than ever before and want to be part of the solution. Dr. Chadda is intelligent, pragmatic, highly qualified, and easy to work with. She collaborates, and is approachable. She is the kind of leader Bernards Township needs, and is consistent with the leadership this town elected last year.”

The Bernards Township Democrats and the Campaign for Sophia Chadda for Bernards Township Committee invite you to kick off the campaign on Saturday, May 4th at 11am at the Allen Street Gazebo near the center of Basking Ridge.
