Drawing/Painting Classes at Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge
Classes and workshops offered for ages 9-adult

Registration is now open for fall drawing and painting classes and workshops at Farmstead Arts Center in Basking Ridge, NJ, taught by Doug Schiller. Please see below for class descriptions and prices. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at dschiller@gmail.com.
Classes:
Introduction to Drawing (Adults)
Tuesdays, September 20-October 25 10am-12pm; $150; All supplies included
This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing. Students will work with a variety of drawing materials and learn to create realistic 2D imagery. No previous experience required.
Drawing and Painting (Adults)
Tuesdays, September 20th-October 25th, 7-9pm; $150; All supplies included
Students will have the opportunity to work in the medium of their choice, working on personal creations as they refine their understanding of the basic principles of color, shading, and composition. All painting styles (representational/abstract) are welcome. Demonstrations and individual attention will be given and a combination of direct still life observation and experimentation will be encouraged. No previous experience required.

Introduction to Watercolors (Adults)
Wednesdays, September 21-October 26 10am-12pm; $150; All supplies included
Students will learn basic watercolor techniques, both traditional and non-traditional. Still lives and landscapes will be explored, as elements of composition, design, and basic skills will be refined through color, shading, value, and proportions. No previous experience required.
Colored Pencil Drawing (Adults)
Wednesdays, September 21-October 26 1pm-3pm; $150; All supplies included
Explore the wide range of drawing possibilities using watercolor colored pencils. From traditional uses to more contemporary applications, students will observe forms and use pencils and brushes, working with still life arrangements, photographic references, and personal imagery. No previous experience required.

Introduction to Pastels (Adults)
Thursdays, September 22-October 27 2pm-4pm; $150; All supplies included
This course in chalk pastels will introduce students to the basic principles of this medium, as well as experimental techniques. Students will learn how to develop their imagery, working from direct observation and photographic references. No previous experience required.

This class is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention will be given. No previous experience required.
Workshops:
Trompe l’oeil – The Art of Illusion (Teens and Adults)
Sunday, September 18 1pm-5pm; $75; All supplies included
In this workshop, students will draw or paint the optical illusion of a 3D space on canvas or paper. Trompe l’oeil, the French term meaning “to deceive the eye”, is an artwork style that realistically presents objects so convincingly that the viewer is fooled into thinking that the objects are real. No previous experience required.
Fall Foliage (Teens and Adults)
Sunday, November 6 1pm-5pm; $75; All supplies included
This indoor workshop will capture the color and beauty of outdoor fall objects. The artwork will come alive, using light, shadow, and color in creating a realistic arrangement on canvas or paper, using a variety of drawing and painting materials. No previous experience required.
Painting on the Passaic (Teens and Adults)
Sunday, October 23 (Rain Date: October 30) 1pm-5pm; $75; All supplies included
The Passaic River runs gracefully behind Farmstead Arts and this idyllic setting will be drawn and/or painted on paper or canvas through direct observation in this one-day outdoor workshop. Using a variety of drawing materials and watercolors concepts such as color, perspective, and composition will be investigated. No previous experience required.
