Drawing/Painting Classes at Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge

Classes offered for ages 9-adult

Registration is now open for winter drawing and painting classes at Farmstead Arts Center in Basking Ridge, NJ, taught by Doug Schiller. Please see below for class descriptions and prices. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at dschiller@gmail.com.

Drawing and Painting (ages 9-12)
Wednesdays, February 1 – March 8, 2017; 4-5:30pm
$125 members/$145 non-members, all materials included
This class is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills and gain confidence in their abilities, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention given. No previous experience required.

Teen Drawing and Painting (ages 13-17)
Tuesdays, January 31 – March 7, 2017; 7-9pm
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing and painting, as they develop a greater understanding and command of light and shadows, perspective, proportions, and composition. Working with a variety of drawing and painting materials, they will learn to create convincing 2D imagery of the 3D world. No previous experience required.

Introduction to Drawing (Adults, 18+)
Thursdays, February 2 – March 9, 2017; 7-9pm
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing. Students will work with a variety of drawing materials and learn to create realistic 2D imagery, as they further develop their drawing skills and gain a deeper understanding of shading, line, proportions, perspective, and composition. No previous experience required.

Introduction to Watercolors (Adults, 18+)
Wednesdays, February 1 – March 8, 2017; 10am-12pm
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
Students will learn basic watercolor techniques, both traditional and non-traditional. Still lives and landscapes will be explored, as elements of composition, design, and basic skills will be refined through color, shading, value, and proportions with individual guidance and critiques. No previous experience required.
