Drawing/Painting Classes at Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge

Creative Days of Summer Workshops
Join us at our “Creative Days of Summer” workshops June 25th to June 27th!

Tessellations
June 25, 9am to 12pm
Have fun reinventing the art of M. C. Escher. Create colorful tessellations of your own design that interlock a pattern of symmetrical shapes. All levels welcome.

T-Shirt Design
June 26, 9am to 12pm
Create and color your own t-shirt design and go home with a new addition to your summer wardrobe. All levels welcome.

Painting with Pencils
June 26, 1pm to 4pm
Discover a new way to paint using watercolor colored pencils. Broaden your understanding and use of this versatile medium completing a finished piece, representational or abstract, in this afternoon class. All levels welcome.

Exploring Watercolor
June 27, 9am to 12pm
Watercolor techniques reviewed and used to complete a finished watercolor in this three hour workshop. Work from still life arrangements, photos and personal references. All levels welcome.

Summer Classes

Intro to Drawing for Adults
Tuesdays, 10:00am to 12:00pm; 6 weeks; July 9 – August 13
$160 for members, $180 for non-members
This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing. Students will work with a variety of drawing materials and learn to create realistic 2D imagery. No previous experience required.

Introduction to Pastels
Tuesdays, 1:00pm to 3:00pm; 6 weeks, July 9 – August 13
$160 members/$180 non-members
This course in chalk pastels will introduce students to the basic principles of this medium, as well as experimental techniques. Students will learn how to develop their imagery, working from direct observation and photographic references. No previous experience required.

Teen Drawing and Painting (Ages 13 to 17)
Tuesdays, 3:30pm – 5:30pm; 6 weeks; July 9 – August 13
$160 for members/$180 for non-membersThis class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Working with a variety of drawing and painting materials, they will learn to create convincing 2D imagery of the 3D world. No previous experience required.

Colored Pencil Drawing
Tuesdays, 7:45pm – 9:45pm; 6 weeks, July 9 – August 13
$160 for members/$180 for non-members
Explore and discover the range and special qualities of watercolor colored pencils. Drawing and painting principles will be applied in the of mixing and blending of colors on paper, overlays, washes, and value judgments. Choices of still life arrangements, landscapes, and personal compositions. Appropriate for beginners and beyond, all materials included.

Painting on the Passaic for Teens & Adults (One-Day Workshop)
Thursday, July 18th, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm
$40 for member/$45 for non-members
Spend an evening enjoying the bucolic setting of the Passaic River on the grounds of the Farmstead Arts Center. Have fun drawing or painting the surrounding landscape and buildings while exploring color, light, shadow, and perspective. No previous experience required.

Kid Drawing and Painting (Ages 9-12)
Saturdays, 9:30am – 11:00am; 6 weeks, July 13 – Aug 17
$160 for members/$180 for non-members
This class is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention given. No previous experience required.

Teen Drawing and Painting (Ages 13 to 17)
Saturdays, 12:30pm – 2:30pm; 6 weeks, July 13 – Aug 17
