Drawing/Painting Classes at Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge

One-Day Workshops

Indoor Studio Landscapes (18+)
Saturday, July 29, 2017; 1-4pm
$40 members, $50 non-members, all materials included

Students will complete an outdoor landscape indoors working from direct observation, photographic references and imagination. Step-by-step instructions and demonstrations will further develop an understanding of perspective, shading, color and compositional elements as representational three-dimensional spaces are created. Personal understanding and progress reinforced with individual and group critiques. No previous experience required. All materials provided.

Butterflies (ages 18+)
Sunday, July 30, 2017; 1-4 pm or 6:30-9:30 pm
$40 members, $50 non-members, all materials included
Capture the symmetry and beauty of butterflies at this one-day indoor workshop at the Farmstead. Take one of nature’s most elegant creations home with you on paper. No previous experience required. All materials provided.

Three-Day Workshops

Introduction to Drawing for Adults
August 1 – 3, 2017 (Tuesday – Thursday); 7:00-9:00pm
$100 members/$115non-members, all materials included
This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing. Students will work with a variety of drawing materials and learn to create realistic 2D imagery. No previous experience required.

Introduction to Watercolors for Adults
August 8-10, 2017 (Tuesday – Thursday); 10am-12pm
$100 members/$115 non-members, all materials included
Students will learn basic watercolor techniques, both traditional and non-traditional. Still lives and landscapes will be explored, as elements of composition, design, and basic skills will be refined through color, shading, value, and proportions. No previous experience required.

One-week Art Camp for Kids

Drawing and Painting for ages 9 – 12
One week camp: August 7 –11, 2017 (Monday – Friday); 2:00-3:30
$125 for members, $145 for non-members, all materials included

This one-week course is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills and gain confidence in their abilities, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention given. No previous experience required, all levels welcome.


Children’s Art Class
