Drawing/Painting Classes at Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge

Intro to Drawing for Adults
10:00 am – Noon; 6 weeks: Tuesdays, May 1 – June 5, 2018
$150 for members, $170 for non-members, all materials included
This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing. Students will work with a variety of drawing materials and learn to create realistic 2D imagery. No previous experience required.

Master Gardens
1:00 – 3:00 pm; 6 weeks: Tuesdays, May 1 – June 5, 2018
$150 for members, $170 for non-members, all materials included
It’s Spring, paint your garden! Garden paintings of established Old Master artists will be studied and replicated in a medium of choice by students in this 6-week indoor course. Students will paint or draw a different famous garden painting in each class referencing provided examples.

Colored Pencil Drawing
10:00 am – Noon; 6 weeks: Wednesdays, May 2 – June 6, 2018
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
Explore and discover the range and special qualities of watercolor colored pencils. Drawing and painting principles will be applied in the of mixing and blending of colors on paper, overlays, washes, and value judgements. Choices of still life arrangements, landscapes, and personal compositions. Appropriate for beginners and beyond.

Introduction to Watercolors for Adults
1:00 – 3:00 pm; 6 weeks: Wednesdays, May 2 – June 6, 2018
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
Students will learn basic watercolor techniques, both traditional and non-traditional. Still lives and landscapes will be explored, as elements of composition, design, and basic skills will be refined through color, shading, value, and proportions. No previous experience required.

Intro to Pastels for Adults
4:00 – 6:00 pm; 6 weeks: Wednesdays, May 2 – June 6, 2018
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
This course in chalk pastels will introduce students to the basic principles of this medium, as well as experimental techniques. Students will learn how to develop their imagery, working from direct observation and photographic references. No previous experience required. All materials provided.

Drawing and Painting for ages 9 – 12
4:00 – 5:30 pm; 6 weeks: Thursdays, May 3 – June 7, 2018
$125 members/$145 non-members, all materials included
This course is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills and gain confidence in their abilities, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention given. No previous experience required, all levels welcome.

Drawing and Painting for ages 9 – 12
1:00 – 2:30 pm; 6 weeks: Saturdays, May 12 – June 16, 2018
$125 members/$145 non-members, all materials included
This course is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills and gain confidence in their abilities, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention given. No previous experience required, all levels welcome.

Teen Drawing and Painting, ages 13 – 17
3:00 – 5:00 pm; 6 weeks: Saturdays, May 12 – June 16, 2018
$150 members/$170 non-members, all materials included
Students will explore the wide range of drawing & painting possibilities using varied materials and complementing traditional and experimental techniques. Open to all levels. No previous experience required. Enrollment limited to 6.

Two-Day Workshop

Master Gardens
2:00 – 5:00 pm; 2 weeks: Sundays, May 13 and 20, 2018
$70 for members, $80 for non-members, all materials included.
It’s Spring, paint your garden! Garden paintings of established Old Master artists will be studied and replicated in a medium of choice by students in this two-day workshop. Students will paint or draw a selected famous garden painting referencing one example from provided copies. No previous experience required.
