Drawing/Painting Classes at Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge

Drawing and Painting, 9-12 years
9:30-11:00 am; 3 weeks: Tuesdays, Session 1 – July 10, 17, 24; Session 2 – July 31, August 7, 14
$65 members, $75 non-members, all materials included
This class is an ideal way to introduce young artists to a variety of different materials, techniques, and the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Students will strengthen established skills, as they have fun developing and exploring new understandings in color, perspective, and composition through still lives, photographic references, and imagination. Demonstrations and individual attention given. No previous experience required.

Watercolor for Adults
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm3 weeks: Tuesdays, Session 1- July 10, 17, 24; Session 2 – July 31, August 7, 14
$75 members, $85 non-members, all materials included
Students will learn basic watercolor techniques, both traditional and non-traditional. Still lives and landscapes will be explored, as elements of composition, design, and basic skills will be refined through color, shading, value, and proportions. No previous experience required.

Adult Drawing and Painting
7:30-9:30 pm3 weeks: Tuesdays, Session 1 – July 10, 17, 24; Session 2 – July 31, August 7, 14

Learn how to develop and apply the fundamental principles of drawing and painting and gain a greater understanding of varied mediums and techniques. Light and shadow, color, perspective, and composition will be explored in still life arrangements, nature studies and personal imagery. Demonstrations and individual attention will be given. All levels welcome.

Colored Pencil Drawing for Adults
10:00 am – 12:00 pm3 weeks: Wednesdays, Session 1 – July 11, 18, 25; Session 2 – August 1, 8, 15
$75 members, $85 non-members
Explore and discover the range and special qualities of watercolor colored pencils. Drawing and painting principles will be applied in the of mixing and blending of colors on paper, overlays, washes, and value judgements. Choices of still life arrangements, landscapes, and personal compositions. Appropriate for beginners and beyond, all materials included.

Indoor Studio Landscapes for Adults
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm3 weeks: Wednesdays, Session 1 – July 11, 18, 25; Session 2 – August 1, 8, 15
$75 members, $85 non-members, all materials included
Students will complete an outdoor landscape indoors working from direct observation, photographic references and imagination. Step-by-step instructions and demonstrations will further develop an understanding of perspective, shading, color and compositional elements as representational three-dimensional spaces are created. Personal understanding and progress reinforced with individual and group critiques. No previous experience required. All materials provided.

Teen Drawing and Painting (Ages 13-17)
3:30 – 5:30 pm3 weeks: Wednesdays, Session 1 – July 11, 18, 25; Session 2 – August 1, 8, 15

This class will introduce students to the fundamental principles of drawing and painting. Working with a variety of drawing and painting materials, they will learn to create convincing 2D imagery of the 3D world. No previous experience required.

Animals Around the World, 9-12 years
9:30 – 11:00 am3 weeks: Thursdays, Session 1 – July 12, 19, 26; Session 2 – August 2, 9, 16
$65 members, $75 non-members, all materials included
See the animals of the world without leaving New Jersey. Students will draw and paint animals from locations around the world as they might be seen in their natural habitats. Have fun depicting your favorite animal. No previous experience required.
